Dr. Barry E. Erdman is a board certified podiatrist with subspecialty training in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. He also has wide interests in general foot and ankle surgery. He has extensive experience in flat foot surgery as well as surgery for a myriad of arthritic conditions of the foot and ankle. He also has extensive experience in athletic injuries, sport medicine, arthroscopy and minimally invasive surgery in regards to the foot and ankle. He is a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was one of the 1st podiatrists in northeast Wisconsin to achieve board certification in Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric surgery, in 2003.
Personal Practice History
Dr. Erdman's medical career began in 1990 in Appleton, Wisconsin after his extensive training. He was in private practice until 1994. He was then asked to start a podiatry department (sub-department of orthopedics) at LaSalle Clinic (now know as Affinity Medical Group) in 1994. He then started and was the first Chairman of the department of Podiatric Medicine and Foot and Ankle Surgery for LaSalle Clinic, Appleton, Wisconsin (a 168 physician multi-specialty clinic) until 2000. Dr Erdman returned to private practice in 2000. He practiced in Green Bay in an office near Lambeau Field from 2000-2003, practicing general podiatry and podiatric surgery, while also working as a limited podiatric consultant for Professional Sports Teams in both the NFL and NBA.. Dr. Erdman has worked with professional and amateur athletes.
Dr. Erdman returned to Appleton in 2002 and built and started the North Shore Foot & Ankle Clinic, a multi-faceted, all-inclusive podiatric clinic that contains advanced technologies regarding foot and ankle care. He intends on continuing and ultimately completing his career at this location.
Dr. Erdman has acquired extensive experience with a variety of foot and ankle related conditions. His training encompasses the most advanced surgical techniques of the foot and ankle as he stays abreast through frequent seminars and workshops held throughout the country. He has special interest in flat foot reconstruction (both adult and child) as well as repair of arthritic conditions to the foot and ankle, and surgical repair of tendon and ligament injuries and instabilities to the foot and ankle. In addition, regarding sports medicine, another passion of Dr. Erdman's, he utilizes his principles of sport medicine, surgical repair and rehabilitation for the everyday non-athlete and worker with great success.
Dr. Erdman firmly believes that in general, surgery should be a last resort in most instances. Thus, he is well familiar with the full-gamut of conservative care and recommends that first prior to surgical repair. His goal is to provide patient education and state of the art foot and ankle care and rehabilitation to return patients to their optimal performance. He recognizes the limitations of both conservative and surgical care and strives to educate this to his patients as well. His bedside manner and demeanor and the time he spends with patients educating them on their foot and ankle conditions, has bread a practice of patient-patient referrals and a high patient satisfaction rate in patient surveys. He is old-school in thought, yet high-tech in care of which he believes has been a winning combination to his success with patients in their foot and ankle care and great outcomes. He also is aware of his limitations and will refer out to another specialist or for another opinion if the situation deems appropriate.
Dr. Erdman welcomes new patients and referral. His practice philosophy centers around educating patients about their unique foot and ankle problems and making them active participants in their care. He is dedicated to achieving patient satisfaction and providing the best foot and ankle medical care available.
Dr. Erdman is married with 3 grown children.
Dr. Erdman's outside interests include: scuba diving, fishing, hunting, boating, physical fitness and family time at their Door County cabin.
